WEBINAR ON ANTIQUUM MINISTERIUM
(Instituting the Ministry of Catechist) and its applicability to India.


NBCLC (National Biblical Catechetical and Liturgical Centre, Bengaluru) which is at the service and the renewal of the Indian Church organized this webinar on 16th July 2021 Friday from 5.30 pm to 7.00 pm to explain the background and the content of this document and to reflect on the applicability of the document and ministry in the Indian Church.

The webinar was both in zoom meeting and you tube channel. The speakers and the title of the webinar were

1) His Beatitude Cardinal Mar George Alencherry
Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church
Metropolitan Archbishop of Ernakulam – Angamaly
The title: Antiquum Ministerium (Instituting the Ministry of Catechist) – Need and the message of the Document. And

2) Rev. Fr. Jerome Vallabaraj, SDB,
Professor of Catechetics, Becchi Don Bosco, Kavarapettai,
Former Professor of Catechetics, Pontifical Salesian University, (Rome).
The topic: The applicability of the document and this ministry to the Indian Church.

The first speaker was Cardinal Alencherry. His talk was very informative about the Catechism Ministry by the laity. He introduced the Papal Document and explained the purpose and the qualifications of the lay ministers who are to be involved in the new ministry.

The second speaker was Rev. Fr. Jerome Vallabaraj, who gave detailed explanation about the purpose, mode of operation, quality of training of the laity. His power point presentation was useful to understand the Papal Document and its contents. He affirmed that now it is the duty of the Bishops’ Conference and Regional Bishops’ Councils to go ahead.

Vote of thanks was given by Rev. Dr. A John Baptist, Director - NBCLC. He thanked the resource persons for the availability and presence.

He also thanked Most Rev. Pauly Kannookadan, Chairman, NBCLC, who proposed this document for study and initiated the process of organising this webinar, which is the fourth in NBCLC webinar series on the papal documents. The team of persons who worked behind the screen at the planning and execution of this webinar such as Rev Fr. Arul Raj Sampath, Mr. Biju, Mrs. Amul, Sr. Almeda, all the staff at NBCLC, Mr. Victor and Mr. Kiran were also thanked. The meeting came to an end with praying the Angelus and blessing of Cardinal.
